Dentures

Dentures are the most common form of tooth replacement requested. Dentures are useful to replace only a few teeth or an entire row. These are removable and custom fit for each patient. Dentures are made with a wire and plastic frame that holds the artificial teeth.

A partial denture is designed for a few teeth, and the wires clip around the remaining teeth to hold the frame in place. A complete set of dentures replaces the entire row of teeth.

Removable dentures are easy to clean. They are removed each night before bed and gently brushed to remove food particles and then placed in water until morning. It is very important to store dentures in water when not in the mouth to prevent them from drying out and requiring repair or replacement. Effervescent cleansers are also available to help clean the dentures and keep bacteria from building. It is also important for the mouth to have a rest period each evening to prevent irritation.

When dentures are first received by the patient, our dentist will fit and adjust them to make sure no areas are irritating the mouth. If irritation becomes a problem afterward, we will readjust them in a short return visit until they are comfortable.
