Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a term sometimes used for a partial denture, although a bridge is actually a permanent appliance attached to natural teeth to replace missing teeth and bridge gaps in teeth. If you are suffering from an incomplete smile, the dentists at Family Dental Group of Greenville may be able to repair it with a dental bridge.

The bridge is made of a wire and plastic frame with one or more replacement teeth attached. The frame is then bonded to the remaining teeth for stability.

A traditional bridge is bonded to two cemented crowns that have been placed over the two abutting teeth.

A Cantilever bridge is only bonded to one cemented crown, which makes this an option for missing teeth at the end of the row.

A Maryland bridge is more conservative by using two natural abutting teeth but not attaching a crown first.

Implant-supported bridges are stronger and more stable but take much longer to complete. Implants require minor surgery and healing time (approximately three to six months) before the bridge can be attached.
